Harvey Nichols ‘Britalia’ x PINS
When reviewing these pictures, the most interesting thing I found is how well the pieces of Italian design compliment the British. Perhaps, that is one of the most interesting things that I’ve learnt since collaborating with Harvey Nichols on their global ‘Britalia‘ campaign. The luxury retailer is working in partnership with the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and the Italian Trade Agency to deliver on a creative concept that promised to promote the bouuuuuntiful buffet of Italian fashion, style and culture. I came on board to curate looks that combined the best of British design with Italian, weaving Alexander McQueen with Francesco Russo, Gucci with Stella McCartney; most notably, tailoring (and colour!) is excellent in both.
The campaign incidentally includes my favourite ‘foreign film re-imagined’ of late, with a famous scene from a Luigi Pirandello play (As You Desire Me) re-subtitled to imagine that the couple are actually vociferously cursing Harvey Nichols for taking Italy’s best fashion, food, drink and beauty products. Such is the success of Italian produce come Christmas, that last year – sharp intake of breathe – the Panettone proved more popular in sales than some styles of mince pie at Harvey Nicks.
You can try my top Britalia picks – photographed here by one of my favourite street photographers, Sandra Semburg – in the Style Concierge areas (click here to book an appt) at all Harvey Nichols stores across the country (except for Liverpool) and even better, because drinking and shopping go together (like drinking with every single leisure activity), there will be complementary Martini cocktails, too – for anyone who pops in for a personal shopping experience. My favourite look is the pink suit (will clash marvellously with a red Father Christmas hat) or the McQueen/ McQ mash-up.
I’m wearing a Gucci suit and Gianvito Rossi courts (all jewellery my own) | Gucci jumper, Le Kilt skirt, Gianvito Rossi shoes and Gucci bag | Stella McCartney suit and skirt and Gucci loafers | Valentino dress, Alexander McQueen belt and Tod’s boots | McQ suit, Alexander McQueen jacket and belt and Francesco Russo boots | MSGM dress and Tod’s boots.
